Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil in danger of missing World Cup opener against Mexico due to knee injury

Arsenal star playmaker Mesut Ozil is an injury doubt for the Germany national team going into the World Cup.

The 29-year-old was taken off after 76 minutes during Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at the hands of Austria.

According to the German outlet Bild, Ozil has been unable to participate in first-team training for the past four days due to a knee injury. Per the source, Ozil was seen clutching his knee following a collision with Sebastian Prodl.

Ozil also missed the final three week’s of Arsenal’s season with a back injury he picked up in the final of the Europa League.

Germany take on Saudi Arabia in their final warm-up fixture on Friday evening. Ozil is unlikely to be risked by manager Joachim Low.

The reigning champions kick off their World Cup defence on June 17 against Mexico in Moscow.

Ozil registered 14 assists and five goals in 35 appearances for Arsenal this season.
