Arsene Wenger must tell Arsenal fans whether Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez are staying or leaving this summer according to club legend Paul Mariner.

Speaking to ESPN, Mariner revealed that Arsenal fans must realise the club can compete with their rivals in terms of money.

Mariner underlined that the Gunners are in a financial position to offer what their rivals are.

The ex Arsenal player also underlined that it is essential that Wenger has replacements in mind if the star duo do leave this window.

“I think everybody out there, all the fans out there, don’t understand that statement,” he said on ESPN FC.

“If they think they can’t afford top top players, they can.

“Arsenal have got the money, they’ve got the backing of the board, everything.

“It just puzzles me that if players want £300,000-a-week and Wenger’s not going to pay, then okay, let everybody know we’re going to let Sanchez go or Ozil go.

“But you’ve got to have replacements, otherwise Arsenal will become and also-ran football club and that cannot happen.”

Ozil and Sanchez have just 12 months remaining on their contract but have yet to sign an extension.

Arsenal face the prospect of losing the star duo on free transfers if they fail to resolve the contract issue over the next six months.

The Gunners have made one transfer so far this summer, signing Sead Kolasinac on a free transfer from Schalke.

The North London outfit will also have Wojciech Szczesny and Joel Campbell returning from their loan deals.
