Diego Carlos is set to join Fenerbahce after rejecting a late bid from Wolves according to Daily Mail.

The Aston Villa defender was expected to complete his move to Istanbul on Monday, but negotiations stalled as Wolves made a late £10 million offer.

Carlos, a key target for Jose Mourinho, had already agreed personal terms with Fenerbahce. However, the late interest from Wolves threatened to derail the deal.

Fenerbahce, who were also facing competition from Galatasaray for Carlos’ signature, ultimately won the race for the Brazilian centre-back.

The move will bolster Mourinho’s defensive options as the Turkish giants aim to challenge for the Süper Lig title.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa have signed right-back Andres Garcia from Levante.

Despite the arrival of Garcia, manager Unai Emery has confirmed that midfielder Emi Buendia can leave the club this month.

Carlos’s departure will leave Villa with limited options at centre-back, but Emery will be hoping to strengthen his squad further before the January transfer window closes.

Fenerbahce are locked in the Super Lig title race in the second place, six points behind leaders and rivals Galatasaray.
