Atleti CEO Enrique Cerezo was quoted by Eurosport TR as saying, “We will open academies in four countries and train around 5,000 kids. These will become as popular as our academies in Spain and Mexico.”
The four countries included in the plan are Turkey, the US, China and India.
The academy would be the first major project setup by Atleti in Turkey since the arrival of Arda Turan.
Atleti increased their Turkish fanbase following the transfer and success of Turan.
Turan became the first Turkish born player to win the La Liga as Atleti won their first league title since 1996 last season.
