Barcelona chiefs fly over for direct talks with Liverpool over £100m star playmaker Philippe Coutinho, transfer could signal Turan exit

Barcelona have ramped up efforts to sign Liverpool star playmaker Philippe Coutinho.

The move is a clear signal that Arda Turan’s Barcelona days are numbered.

Barcelona opted to field both Gerrard Delefeou and Denis Suarez last week in the left-wing role – which Neymar Jr vacated – during their friendly against Chapecoense.  Turan was the only fit outfield player not to feature.

According to the Daily Mail, Barcelona view Coutinho as a direct replacement for Neymar.

Per the source, Barcelona directors flew over to England to hold direct talks with the Merseyside based club.

The Mail states that Liverpool have already turned an £80m bid from the Catalan giants. However, Barcelona have stepped up their pursuit for the former Inter man.

Barca have sent directors Oscar Grau, Raul Sanllehi and Javier Bordas to Liverpool in an attempt to complete the signing. The Mail go onto state that Barcelona are lining up a £100 million bid for the Brazil international.

Coutinho’s transfer saga could also have a knock-on effect regarding Emre Can’s future at the club.

The 23-year-old has under 12 months left on his contract with the Reds and will be less included to put pen-to-paper on a new deal if the club doesn’t show ambition.
