Barcelona news: Sevilla boss Jorge Sampaoli targeted for managerial role

Barcelona are interested in appointing Sevilla boss Jorge Sampaoli as Luis Enrique’s replacement next season.

According to the Mirror, the former Chile national team boss is at the top of Barcelona’s wish list.

Per the source, the Argentinian tactician will also be available on the cheap due to a €1.5million release clause in his contract.

Sampaoli won the Copa America in 2015 before making the move to Europe. The talented manager has hit the ground running with Sevilla since joining last summer.

Luis Enrique played an instrumental role in bringing Turkish international star Arda Turan to the club.

Sevilla find themselves in third place in La Liga with 49 points after 23 games. The Los Blanquirrojos also find themselves in the Last 16 of the UEFA Champions League and take on Leicester City tomorrow.

However, Sevilla are keen to keep hold of Sampaoli and have offered the 56-year-old a bumper new deal.

“We want Sampaoli to remain here,” Sevilla president Jose Castro was quoted as saying by the Mirror.

“His attacking game makes us happy. Sevilla have offered him another year.”
