Barcelona star Arda Turan likened to Croatia legend

Midfielder Ivan Rakitic has likened his Barcelona teammate to the Croatian icon Robert Prosinecki.

The experienced midfielder likened Turan to the former Real Madrid midfielder. Rakitic faces Turan later today when Croatia take on Turkey in Euro 2016 Group D’s opening game.

Rakitic went onto say that Croatia must prepare for the threat posed by Turan.

This will be the third encounter between Turkey and Croatia in the European Championships. Croatia beat Turkey 1-0 in Euro 96 but Turkey got revenge in Euro 2008.

Croatia took the lead on 119 minutes but Turkey equalised a minute later before winning on penalties.

Both Turan and Rakitic are expected to play – the bearded winger will actually captain Turkey. The 29-year-old has another four-years remaining on his contract with Barcelona after joining on a £26 million move from Atletico Madrid last summer.

Turan made his debut in January and made 25 appearances in total scoring twice, providing four assists and winning the league title for the second time – as well as the Spanish Cup.
