Barcelona star Arda Turan has likened the Turkish Super Lig club Besiktas to the Spanish side Atletico Madrid.
Turan also caused controversy in Turkey as he compared Galatasaray to his current club Barcelona.
“Beşiktaş are similar to Atletico Madrid in the way they are setup, Galatasaray have a lot more money like the difference between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid you could say Galatasaray are the Barcelona of Turkey,” Turan was quoted as saying by So Foot (via Fanatik).
Turan has plenty free time on his hands having been banned from playing for his club until January due to the FIFA transfer restriction imposed on the reigning La Liga champions.
The Turkish international rose through the ranks of the Galatasaray youth system before making a name for himself in Turkey and earning a move to Atletico Madrid in 2011 for €12 million.
Turan won almost every trophy at Atletico Madrid before a high profile move to Barcelona over the summer transfer window. Barcelona take on Real Sociedad this weekend in the Spanish league.
Besiktas are currently first in the Turkish league with 29 points in 12 games while Galatasaray find themselves in third place with 22 points.
