Basel vs Man City Probable Line-Ups – Guardiola Receives Major Injury Boost

Manchester City take on Basel in the Champions League Last 16 first-leg clash at St Jakob-Park on Tuesday.

The Swiss giants qualified in second place in Group A, behind Manchester United but did beat the Premier League giants at home.

City head into the clash having failed to win any of their last three away games.

Pep Guardiola was given a major boost heading into the clash as Leroy Sane has recovered from his ankle injury sooner than expected.

The German winger has travelled with the squad to Switzerland and is in line to return to the matchday squad despite suffering ligament damage a fortnight ago.

“I’m surprised,” Guardiola was quoted as saying on the official Man City website.

“He worked a lot. He’s young but I couldn’t expect him to be so professional.

“He’s not in perfect condition but he won a lot of time, he wants to help us.

“He’s with us and that’s good news. The physios and himself have made a good job.”

Midfielder of Turkish origin Ilkay Gundogan is likely to keep his place in the side if David Silva does not recover in time.

Gundogan has started instead of Silva since he picked up an injury.

Silva is expected to make the squad but is not likely to start.

Basel meanwhile could be without Luca Zuffi who is a doubt, while Germano Vailati is sidelined.
