Manchester United’s disappointing Premier League season continued at Old Trafford as they succumbed to a 2-0 home defeat against West Ham United. Despite reaching the UEFA Europa League final, their domestic struggles deepened, extending their winless run to seven matches.
In a match where manager Ruben Amorim opted for some squad rotation, Turkish international Altay Bayındır was given the nod to start in goal for Manchester United, replacing Andre Onana. However, Bayındır could do little to prevent West Ham from securing all three points.

The visitors took the lead in the 26th minute through Tomas Soucek, and Jarrod Bowen doubled their advantage in the 57th minute, sealing a comfortable victory for West Ham. The result further compounded Manchester United’s woes in the league.
Following the match, the British press delivered their assessments, with national goalkeeper Altay Bayındır coming under scrutiny. However, reports suggest a more sympathetic view of his performance amidst the team’s overall struggles.
The Daily Mail, for instance, awarded Bayındır a rating of 6 out of 10. Their assessment noted that while the goalkeeper had appeared “like a nervous cube” in previous outings, there was little he could have done to prevent either of West Ham’s goals. They stated that Soucek’s shot and Bowen’s finish were both largely unstoppable.
This suggests that while Manchester United’s overall performance continues to raise concerns, Altay Bayındır was not solely held responsible for the latest setback at Old Trafford. The focus now shifts to whether Amorim can find a solution to their league form as they approach the Europa League final.
