Besiktas Boss Plays Loris Karius as Defender in Training to Develop His Outfield Game

Besiktas manager Abdullah Avci has been working on developing Liverpool loanee Loris Karius’ outfield ability over the pre-season.

Turkish-Football reporters in Istanbul observed recent Besiktas training sessions and revealed that Avci has used Karius as a defender during training games.

Avci revealed after training that he has been working on improving Karius’ outfield ability.

The Besiktas manager expects Karius to contribute more to the outfield team with his ball distribution, passing and long balls next season.

Avci identified Karius’ outfield play as being a weakness and has put him on a special program.

Karius struggled in his first training game as an outfield player but grew into his role as the day progressed.

The German keeper has entered his second season on loan at Besiktas.

There were rumors that Karius would return to Liverpool this summer but he will be staying in Istanbul.

The 26-year-old keeper conceded 39 goals and kept six clean sheets in 30 appearances for Besiktas in the league.

The Black Eagles finished the campaign in 3rd place and will play Europa League football next season.
