Besiktas closing in on Newcastle starlet nicknamed the ‘new Ozyakup’
Besiktas are closing in on a deal for Newcastle United starlet Dan Barlser according to Turkish media outlet Mynet.
The Black Eagles have been scouting Barlaser and have made an enquiry regarding his availability.
Besiktas chief of scouting and youth development Metin Albayrak is now reported to be involved and is expected to enter talks with Newcastle.
Per the source, Barlaser who they nickname the ‘new Ozyakup’ after former Arsenal youth Oguzhan Ozyakup.
The similarities are glaringly obvious. Ozyakup is a player of Turkish descent born outside of Turkey. The midfielder was an Arsenal youth who joined Besiktas in pursuit of first team football.
Barlaser was born in Gateshead, Newcastle and is also of Turkish heritage.
The 20-year-old has represented Turkey at youth international level and can play for the Crescent Stars of England as a senior.
Barlaser is contracted to Newcastle until 2020 and is highly rated but has struggled to break into the first team.
The youngster has eight goals in 60 appearances for Newcastle’s Under-23 side.
Ozyakup left Arsenal for Besiktas and has gone onto establish himself as a star player with silverware and European competition experience under his belt.
