Besiktas Eyes Everton Defender to Bolster Backline

Turkish giants Besiktas have shifted their focus to Everton defender Michael Keane as they seek to strengthen their backline before the transfer window closes according to Aksam.

Besiktas have until 8 February to complete a move as the transfer window in the Super Lig runs later than the Premier League.

The Black Eagles previously explored options from Newcastle and Nottingham Forest but see Keane, with his extensive Premier League experience, as a better fit.

Besiktas are looking for a seasoned defender who can not only solidify their defense but also provide leadership on the pitch. Keane’s previous captaincy roles make him an attractive candidate.

Keane’s current situation at Everton, where he serves as a backup, presents an opportunity for Besiktas. His limited playing time this season suggests he could be open to a move.

Besiktas is expected to initiate talks with Everton soon to explore the feasibility of a transfer for the 30-year-old defender.

Keane’s contract expires in 1.5 years, and his value might have fallen significantly since Everton paid €28.5 million for him in 2017. This could work in Besiktas’ favor as they negotiate a potential transfer fee.

With the transfer window nearing its end, Besiktas will aim to move swiftly if they believe Keane is the right answer to their defensive woes. His experience, leadership qualities, and current situation at Everton make him an intriguing option for the Turkish club.
