Besiktas crushed Rizespor 7-2 away in the Super Lig on Monday to keep hopes of a second-place finish alive.

Domagoj Vida opened the scoring, Adem Ljajic bagged a brace, Burak Yilmaz also got his name on the scoresheet but Guven Yalcin was the star of the show scoring a hat-trick.

Yalcin was also involved in a bizarre incident which saw a long-range shot rip the net.

The referee was left confused over whether the ball had, in fact, ripped the net or missed the goal entirely.

VAR was brought in to clear up the issue and ruled that goal should stand as the ball passed over the line and through the net.

Yalcin now has five goals and three assists in 17 appearances for the Black Eagles in his debut season since joining from Bayer Leverkusen over the summer.

The Black Eagles closed the gap with second-placed Galatasaray to five points following the victory.

The Black-Whites remain 11 points behind first-placed Basaksehir but could close the gap to eight points if they beat the league leaders next week.
