Besiktas are spreading their wings and preparing to swoop for Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles, according to Fotomac.

Per the source, Besiktas club officials are flying to Tyneside to negotiate a deal, though it’s unclear if they aim for a pre-agreement or a mid-season transfer.

The Turkish giants are hoping to seal a bargain deal for the experienced defender as his contract nears its end.

Lascelles has fallen down the pecking order at St. James’ Park since Dan Burn’s arrival two years ago, and Sven Botman’s arrival further squeezed his playing time.

However, he remained Eddie Howe’s go-to option when injuries decimated the backline. Now, with Botman back fit, Lascelles finds himself back on the bench, questioning his future.

With just six months left on his contract, Lascelles is free to talk to foreign clubs about a pre-contract and potential summer move. But Newcastle, despite wanting to keep him due to their depleted squad, might cash in now to avoid losing him for free.

The 30-year-old Lascelles has been a stalwart for the Magpies, making 22 appearances this season and rarely letting them down when called upon.

Lascelles played a crucial role in their Premier League promotion and subsequent establishment in the top flight. He’s just three games shy of 250 appearances for the club.

Besiktas meanwhile, are rebuilding the squad after a disappointing season and are focusing on the next campaign from now.
