Turkish Süper Lig contenders Besiktas have reportedly entered the race to sign Emerson Royal from AC Milan, with the Brazilian full-back seemingly surplus to requirements at the Italian club.

Emerson Royal’s absence from AC Milan’s 26-man squad for their pre-season tour of the Asia-Pacific region – where they are set to face Arsenal, Liverpool, and Perth Glory – has fueled speculation about his imminent departure. His exclusion, alongside midfielder Tommaso Pobega who is expected to join Bologna, strongly suggests Emerson Royal is not part of Milan’s plans for the upcoming season.

A Second Chance in Turkey?

This isn’t the first time a move to Turkey has been on the cards for the 25-year-old defender. During the winter transfer window, Emerson Royal was reportedly close to joining Galatasaray before an injury scuppered the deal. Now, it appears he might get a second opportunity in the Turkish Süper Lig.

According to transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano, “Understand Besiktas are set to offer loan deal with buy option clause for Emerson Royal. Talks to follow with AC Milan after player gave initial green light to the move.”

Adding to this, Matteo Moretto, another respected journalist, stated, “Initial contacts for Emerson Royal with Beşiktaş. Possible formula: loan with option to buy. No negotiations between clubs yet, but initial request for information.”

While formal negotiations between the clubs have yet to commence, the reports indicate that Emerson Royal himself is open to the move. Besiktas’s proposed loan-with-option-to-buy formula could provide a mutually beneficial solution for both clubs and the player, potentially offering Emerson Royal a fresh start and regular playing time.
