Besiktas are interested in Newcastle United defender Jamaal Lascelles according to the Daily Mail.

Lascelles’ future at Newcastle United is shrouded in uncertainty after he was relegated to a late substitute appearance in the club’s derby win over Sunderland.

This, coupled with reports of interest from Turkish giants Besiktas, has thrown his captaincy role and playing time into question.

The 30-year-old defender, once an undisputed starter, has found himself behind Fabian Schar and Sven Botman in Eddie Howe’s pecking order.

Botman’s recent return from injury further complicates the situation, casting doubt on Lascelles’ long-term prospects at St. James’ Park.

While media speculation is just that, Lascelles’ diminishing playing time and contract expiring in June fuel the rumor mill. A Newcastle fan favorite since joining in 2014, his departure for regular football elsewhere wouldn’t surprise anyone.

However, Lascelles has proven his worth this season, stepping up admirably during Botman’s absence. His 17 starts across all competitions, including crucial Champions League outings, showcase his leadership and resilience.

His experience and dedication remain valuable, but the club must also prioritize building for the future.

Besiktas meanwhile, are planning to rebuild for next season after a disappointing campaign so far which has already seen them sack three managers.
