‘Best player in Brazilian football’ – Euro giants join Liverpool in race to sign highly rated Brazilian star Luan
Liverpool have been joined by Turkish giants Fenerbahce in the race to sign the Gremio forward Luan.
The Brazil international has attracted interest from Europe following impressive performances for club and country.
The French outlet Foot Mercato claim Fenerbahce have edged ahead of both Liverpool and Sampdoria in the race to sign the 24-year-old.
Per the source, Gremio are open to allowing their star forward leave for the right price.
Luan earned his debut for the Brazil national team earlier. The 24-year-old has scored 13 goals in 20 appearances for the Brazilian giants this season.
Former Brazil international Renato Gaucho has rated Luan as the best player in Brazilian football.
“In my opinion, Luan is the best player in Brazilian football,” Renato told SporTV.
“He has been playing great football, helping the team. We all know that Gremio will struggle to keep him because the proposals will appear.
“We hope he does not go, but it gets difficult with the [transfer] window and with him playing as he has been playing.
“It’s going to be a real shame. The group are strong, but of course we will feel it if this happens.
“For my part the club would never interfere in a way that holds back the player. Unfortunately nowadays the Brazilian clubs cannot compete with [those in] Europe.”
Gremio currently sit in second place in the Brazilian top flight.
Fenerbahce are on the hunt for a new striker following the departure of Moussa Sow earlier this summer.
The Yellow Canaries have already major changes to their side following a disappointing 2016-17 league campaign.
