Birmingham City ace will play Champions League football next season after completing four-year transfer for undisclosed fee

Birmingham City winger Kerim Frei has joined Basaksehir on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

The Istanbul minnows confirmed the move on the official club website.

Frei joined the Blues on a fee believed to be around £2.2 million according to the BBC.

The 23-year-old was signed by former manager Gianfranco Zola in January on a three-and-a-half year deal.

Frei made 13 appearances in the Championship for Birmingham, 10 of them from the bench.

The midfielder is no stranger to Turkish football having joined the Blues from Besiktas.

Frei will get to play Champions League football but he will have to help his side navigate past a tricky playoff route before booking a place in the group stages.

Basaksehir finished last season as surprise runners-up in the Super Lig and will face Club Brugge in the playoff stage.

Frei has been brought in as a replacement for 20-year-old Cengiz Under who was sold to Roma for €15 million a fortnight ago.
