Birmingham City News: Redknapp issues strange response to Kerim Frei omission
Birmingham City manager Harry Redknapp responded in a mischievous fashion when asked about Kerim Frei’s whereabouts.
Frei was a surprise omission from Redknapp’s match day squad against Aston Villa. The Turkey international scored a free-kick last weekend to earn Birmingham a point.
However, Redknapp stated that he had better options on the day.
The former Portsmouth manager’s gamble fell flat as his side were defeated by rivals Aston Villa. Villa recorded a 1-0 win over Blues on Sunday.
“Has he done well?” Redknapp was quoted as saying by the Birmingham Mail when asked about Frei.
“How much did they pay for him? When did they buy him? In the window? Can he play centre-half?
“I have seen him, I do know him.
“He’s a good little player I am sure – but today we had [David] Davis, [Jacques] Maghoma a little bit stronger really. We went with that type of player.”

Frei joined Birmingham on a six-month loan from Besiktas in January. The 23-year-old is no stranger to playing football in the United Kingdom. Frei featured for Fulham FC in the Premier League prior to his move to Turkey.
The Turkey international played an important role in Besiktas winning the Turkish league title last season.
Birmingham City are currently 21st in the league, just two points above the relegation zone.
Redknapp’s side take on Huddersfield this weekend as they look to return to winning ways.
