Birmingham City has announced the signing of Nigerian international Bright Osayi-Samuel on a three-year deal, effective immediately following the conclusion of his contract with Turkish giants Fenerbahçe.
The versatile 27-year-old full-back becomes the Blues’ fourth major acquisition this week as they fortify their squad for their return to the Championship.
Osayi-Samuel arrives at St Andrew’s after a productive four-and-a-half-year spell with Fenerbahçe, where he made 178 appearances for the club now coached by José Mourinho. He initially moved to Istanbul in January 2021 from Queens Park Rangers.

Known for his adaptability, Osayi-Samuel can operate effectively across the right flank, excelling as a right-back, wing-back, or even a traditional winger. His arrival follows the recent signings of Demarai Gray, Tommy Doyle, and James Beadle, as Birmingham City prepares for life back in England’s second tier after clinching the League One title last season.
On the international stage, Osayi-Samuel has earned 22 caps for Nigeria since his debut in 2022. He was notably part of the Super Eagles squad that finished as runners-up in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
His professional journey began early, making his debut for Blackpool at just 17. He was a key member of the Blackpool side that secured promotion from League Two via the play-offs in 2017. Following that, Osayi-Samuel went on to make 103 Championship appearances during his time at Queens Park Rangers, adding to his six second-tier appearances for Blackpool in the 2014-15 season.
Expressing his ambition upon joining the Blues, Osayi-Samuel told the official Birmingham City website, “I want to play in the Premier League and show everyone what I can do. Coming to Birmingham City now is another step for me, an opportunity to show everyone where I’ve been for the last four years.”
His signing brings significant experience and versatility to Birmingham City’s ranks as they aim to make an impact in the Championship.
