Birmingham City team news: Star defender Michael Morrison out, Kerim Frei available

Birmingham City face a tough trip away to Cardiff City in desperate need of finding some form if they are to avoid being dragged into a relegation scrap.

The Blues succumbed to a second consecutive league defeat mid-week against Wigan on Tuesday and have been plummeting down the table under the stewardship of Gianfranco Zola.

The Italian manager is in desperate need of results as his side have won just twice in 15 games and the supporters are beginning to lose their patience.

The team was booed off at half time against Wigan and he cannot afford another performance of that manner.

Birmingham City will be without Michael Morrison who is out injured but Jacques Maghoma could return to side after making a recovery.

Cardiff City meanwhile are facing a bit an injury crisis. The Bluebirds could only name six substitutes on Tuesday as a result.

Rickie Lambert, Lee Peltier and Bruno Manga while Matt Connolly is also a doubt.

There is some good news for the home side as Aron Gunnarsson could be available after recovering from the flu.

In other Birmingham City news, Turkish international winger Kerim Frei will be available.

The 24-year-old winger has struggled to establish himself as a first-team selection but he did play 45 minutes against Wigan.

Frei joined Besiktas in January and has made just two starts in eight appearances for the Blues, playing a total of 356 minutes of Championship football.
