Reports linking Liverpool assistant manager Zeljko Buvac with the Fenerbahce managerial job have continued to circulate.

The former Mainz player unexpectedly stepped down from his role at Liverpool towards the end of the season, however, his contract with the club has not been terminated.

It is unclear whether Buvac will be returning to the Merseyside based club.

We recently reported that Fenerbahce’s newly appointed director of football Damien Comolli has agreed terms with the Bosnian tactician.

However, Bosnian TV reporter Haris Mrkonja has claimed that a deal is by no means done yet.

Mrkonja took to social media to state that he had spoken to his colleagues at the Turkish outlet Sporx. He went onto state that talks between Buvac and Fenerbahce are ongoing, however, Mrkonja believes the Liverpool coach is not Fenerbahce’s first choice.

“#Fenerbahçe agreed with #buvac on terms but they have been discussing with some other coaches. There is nothing official and it seems that Buvac is not target number one,” Mrkonja tweeted.

“This is what @sporx colleagues tell me.”
