“Both teams have defensive concerns” – Ex England international reveals prediction for Liverpool v Crystal Palace clash

Former England international Paul Merson has revealed his prediction for Liverpool’s clash with Crystal Palace this weekend.

Merson believes both sides come into the game with defensive worries. Liverpool conceded three goals during their 3-3 draw with Watford FC last weekend.

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace also conceded three goals during their 3-0 defeat at the hands of the newly promoted Huddersfield.

“Both teams have defensive concerns but more so Crystal Palace. I know Liverpool let in three at Watford but they didn’t lose and then they won in midweek, which was a great result,” Merson told SkySports.

Merson goes onto state that he is unsure whether Frank de Boer’s possession style of play suits Palace.

“The manager is asking them to play out from the back and when you do that with a lack of a confidence you’re asking for trouble.”

Merson went onto predict a 3-1 victory for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The game takes place at Anfield and kick-off is scheduled for 15:00 (GMT). Liverpool boss Klopp has several injury concerns coming into the game.

Star playmaker Philippe Coutinho will miss the clash due to a back injury while Nathaniel Clyne and Daniel Sturridge are both injury doubts.

Germany international Emre Can looks set to retain his place in Klopp’s starting eleven. The 23-year-old has under 12 months remaining on his contract with the Reds.
