Brazilian star reveals why he did not join West Brom this summer

Fenerbahce star Josef de Souza was close to joining West Brom over the summer transfer window.

Souza ended up staying at Yellow Canaries and has been one of the star performers for his side this season.

The Brazilian midfielder revealed he did consider leaving but head coach Aykut Kocaman promised him a first-team role which convinced him to stay.

“The offer [West Brom] was great, I was seriously considering moving to England,” Souza was quoted as saying by Turkish-Football.

There was a lot of competition in midfield and I was concerned about playing time.

“Aykut Kocaman made my decision for me after promising first-team football and revealing that I am part of his plans.”

The Birmingham Mail meanwhile reported that Souza had problems acquiring a UK work permit.

Per the source, the £10 million rated defensive midfielder was a top target for Baggies boss Tony Pulis.

Souza has started every game except the victory over Genclerbirligi this season.

The 28-year-old has been capped three times by Brazil and joined Fenerbahce from Brazilian club Sao Paulo in 2015.

Fenerbahce are currently fourth in the Super Lig, five points behind league leaders Galatasaray.
