Hakan Çalhanoğlu – ‘I am fit, I am in form but was not called up by Terim’ [divider]
Bayer Leverkusen star Hakan Çalhanoğlu has revealed that he is disappointed at not being called up to the Turkish national team by Fatih Terim.
“I was waiting to be called up, I am in form and I am not injured,” Çalhanoğlu was quoted as saying by Fanatik.
“I am really disappointed with this decision, I cannot understand why this has happened and what will happen after.
“I don’t know what is going on right now it is all very confusing and really upsetting.”
Çalhanoğlu also released another statement expressing his displeasure with the current situation.
“It is divine determination, Fatih Terim is the boss of the national team and he gives the determination,” Çalhanoğlu said.
Çalhanoğlu and fellow Bayer teammate Ömer Toprak were not called up to the Turkish national team squad that will face Brazil and Kazakhstan.
Terim has been heavily criticised for the decision to drop the Bayer duo and give Gökhan Töre the call up.
Töre, Toprak and Çalhanoğlu were involved in an altercation last year which resulted in a gun being pulled on the Bayer players.
Töre was reported to have had a fight with a friend of Toprak while a friend of the Beşiktaş winger held a gun to both Bayer players.
The shocking incident sparked outrage but Terim has decided to forgive Töre at what seems the expense of Toprak and Çalhanoğlu.
