Celtic Search for Joe Hart’s Successor, Cakir Being Targeted

Celtic are preparing for life without Joe Hart as the veteran goalkeeper prepares to retire at the end of the season.

HITC report that Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher, impressive in the recent EFL Cup final, is a top target for Brendan Rodgers. However, Liverpool’s reported £15 million asking price might be a hurdle for the Scottish champions.

Per the source, Celtic are also considering Trabzonspor’s captain and Turkish international, Ugurcan Cakir. Cakir, also described as “world-class”, may be a more affordable option. He nearly joined Nottingham Forest last season for a fee of around £7.5 million.

Recent scouting reports confirm Celtic’s interest in Cakir, even if he might not be their first choice.

The Scottish giants have reportedly been keeping close tabs on Cakir monitoring him in games this season.

Concerns may linger about his lack of UK football experience, especially given the costly previous signing of Vasilis Barkas. Nevertheless, both Kelleher and Cakir offer significant potential as Celtic seek a new starting goalkeeper.

Cakir is under contract until 2027 and has never played abroad before but does have European competition and international football experience under his belt.

The keeper is one of the most highest rated in Turkish football and could lead his country in goal at Euro 2024 this summer.
