Crystal Palace make £17.65m bid for Chelsea target who was awarded Champions League Goal Of The Group Stage

Crystal Palace have made a £17.65 million bid for Besiktas striker Cenk Tosun according to the Sun.

Per the source, the Eagles have made the first official move to prize the Turkish international away from the Istanbul giants.

The report quotes Besiktas Fikret Orman as telling the Haber newspaper that the fee being quoted is too low: “We are not sure Cenk will go.

“We want Cenk to stay. €20 euros is a very small for Cenk.”

A source close to Besiktas revealed to Turkish-Football that the club do not plan to sell Tosun in January.

The Black Eagles have set a £30 million valuation and do not expect their asking price to be matched.

The reigning Super Lig giants would consider offers that reflect their valuation but the current priority is keeping their star man at the club.

Palace could end up facing stiff competition from fellow Premier League sides including Chelsea.

Club vice-president Ahmet Nur Cebi revealed that they do not want part ways with Tosun although he could not rule out the possibility of their stance changing depending on events.

“We have no plans to sell Cenk Tosun, will this be the case in the future? that we don’t know, it may chance,” Cebi said.

“Our current stance is clear, we want Cenk to stay on.”

Tosun played an important role in Besiktas becoming the first Turkish side to book a place in the Champions League Last 16 this season.

The 26-year-old scored four and provided two assists in Group G.

Besiktas are also in the title race, currently just three points behind leaders Basaksehir.

Tosun has been part of the Black Eagles side that have lifted the league title for the past two seasons.

In total the Germany born striker has 13 goals and three assists in all competitions this season.

Tosun also won the Champions League Goal of the Group Stage for the second successive season, beating the likes of Gareth Bale and Sadio Mane to win the award.

The Turkish international’s goal from 25 metres in the 3-1 away win over Porto won the prize.

The decision was announced on the official UEFA website. The Turkish international won with 44 percent of the vote.
