Damien Comolli Compares New Club To Liverpool, Tottenham & Arsenal

Turkish-Football reported that Damien Comolli would be appointed sporting director of Fenerbahce should Ali Koc be elected as club president.

Well Koc did win the election and Comolli was announced sporting director today, signing a three-year deal, his first major role since leaving Liverpool in 2012.

Comolli gave his first press conference today, revealing that in his opinion Fenerbahce are every bit as big as the former clubs he worked for including Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool.

“Every club I have worked at has been a big one,” he said.

“I have worked at clubs with great histories, traditions and it is an honor to be at another huge side.

“Fenerbahce are every bit as big as Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool.

“This is a prestigious club worthy of being put in the same category.”

Comolli discovered the likes of Kolo Touré, Emmanuel Eboue and Gael Clichy as a scout at Arsenal before being appointed sporting director for Spurs in 2005.

Comolli was appointed the same role for Liverpool in 2010.

Under his stewardship, the Reds signed the likes of Luis Suarez but also Andy Carroll and Charlie Adam.

At the time Carroll’s signing was the most expensive British player ever and eighth most expensive player in history.

Comolli also helped Liverpool sign Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam, Stewart Downing, Doni, José Enrique, Sebastián Coates and Craig Bellamy during his time at the club.
