Former vice-chairman of Arsenal Football Club David Dein is back in Turkey ahead of the Bodrum cup in Istanbul.

Dein regularly travels to Turkey where he enjoys yachting on the Mediterranean coast.

Turkish newspaper Milliyet got the chance to catch up with Dein during his latest visit.

Dein revealed that he believes Arsenal are strong enough to keep their current run of form alive and that the Liverpool game could prove pivotal.

“I spent 24 years at Arsenal, we lifted 18 trophies and during this time we had a team that went onto be known as ‘The Invincibles’ go 49 games without defeat,” he said.

“Arsenal played Manchester City and Chelsea in their first two games of the season, in a few weeks we will play Liverpool and that will be a pivotal point.

“Arsenal are in great form and I hope and believe it will continue.”

He also spoke about the 1999-00 UEFA Cup final defeat against Galatasaray.

The Gunners reached two European competition finals during the Dein era but despite domestic success on the trophy front they failed to win the UEFA Cup (Europa League) or Champions League.

“Everyone wants to win trophies, losing the UEFA Cup final against Galatasaray was deeply saddening but we bounced back and will never stop trying for a European trophy,” he added.

Dein took Arsenal from a club that earned £2m in 1983 to a club that earns £500m per-season and play in a 60,000 seater stadium.
