Fenerbahçe midfielder Diego revealed that he initially agreed terms with Fenerbahçe while he was playing for Werder Bremen.
“I had talks with Fenerbahçe in the past but the deal fell through,” Diego said.
“I was playing for Werder Bremen back then, I wanted to join Fenerbahçe and received a great offer but my club did not let the move go ahead.
“I had to respect this decision but my father went to Istanbul at the time and had agreed a deal.
“I have always had the upmost respect for Fenerbahçe, playing here is something I have wanted to do for a long time.
“I am a player who enjoys being used in a free role, I had offers from other clubs as well but Fenerbahçe was the team I wanted.”
Diego also revealed that he has a lot of respect for Fenerbahçe’s Istanbul rivals Beşiktaş and Galatasaray as well.
“I also have a lot of respect for our other Istanbul clubs, Beşiktaş and Galatasaray are all very important teams and I am happy in Turkey,” Diego said.
Fenerbahçe signed Diego as a free agent on a three-year deal worth €3.5 million per-season
