Borussia Dortmund will miss the presence of Ilkay Gundogan according to the young midfielder Julian Weigl.

Gundogan joined Manchester City from Dortmund earlier this week on a £20 million deal.

“Of course Ilkay was a really important team member. I played pretty well with him next to me. It fitted really well,” Weigl was quoted as saying by Goal.

“So of course it’s a loss to our team. But we knew for quite some time that he thought about moving to another club.

“We played without him good as well. But it is sad that he has taken this path.

“Everybody needs to make his own choices. He wants to make the next step. Dortmund will be prepared I hope.”

Weigl stated the importance for Dortmund to have a replacement prepared and  According to Transfermarkt the Colombian midfielder Jefferson Lerma is being courted by Dortmund.

Gundogan has been ruled out of Euro 2016 and the beginning of next season after dislocating his knee during training earlier this month. Bild report that it will take Gundogan four to six months for him to make a full recovery.
