‘Emre Can was chasing shadows’ – Furious Liverpool fans slam display against Man City on social media
Liverpool suffered a crushing 5-0 defeat against Manchester City at the Etihad on Saturday 9 September.
City managed to beat the Reds for the first time since Jurgen Klopp was appointed head coach.
Midfielder of Turkish origin Emre Can started for Liverpool but was deployed as a defender in the middle of the back three at stages through the game.
The match was not a particularly memorable one for Can – or any Liverpool player to be fair.
The fans were not best pleased either. We took a look at how Liverpool fans reacted to Can’s display on social media.

New role for Emre Can?
Liverpool have gone to a 3-5-1 formation. Emre Can drops into defence with Oxlade-Chamberlain and Wijnaldum supporting Firmino.

Says it all really… poor display all around. It would be fair to pin it all on Can but he was not great either.
Emre Can, Jordan Henderson & Georginio Wijnaldum combined for 1 tackle against Manchester City.
Not the most combative effort lads. pic.twitter.com/cG7phInTGq

Lol Emre Can was chasing shadows. Chamberlain was confused by the pressure. Salah was running fast to nowhere. I love this song..

Not everyone criticised Can! he still had his backers.
Totally agree. Red card 100% correct, but as soon as it happened, we gave in, threw the towel in & apart from Emre Can, no fight at all.

Clever! But more worryingly Can has under 12 months remaining on his contract and has not signed a new deal.
Emre Can seems to be asking the referee to insert a release clause into this game.

Well…
If you start to accept players wanting to leave (Emre Can) and playing them when others are committed to the club, you become Arsenal.

Cheeky!
Emre Can just asked me why the City fans were booing me. I said I don’t know Emre. I looked to the crowd & all I could see was empty seats.

That was weird.
UPDATE: Scenes in the #LFC dressing room are violent, Oxlade-Chamberlain allegedly punched Emre Can, calling him a ‘German nonce’.
