Euro giants make shock move for Chelsea star Diego Costa after missing out on transfer 6 years ago

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte wants rid of Diego Costa this summer but has struggled to offload the star striker.

Costa refused a move to China and the delay in his exit is complicating the Blues efforts to sign Romelu Lukaku according to the Mirror.

Per the source, the Spanish international wants a return to Atletico Madrid.

Turkish champions Besiktas could help the Blues accelerate efforts to sell Costa according to Fotomac.

The Black Eagles are back in the race for the powerful forward, six years after narrowly missing out on his transfer.

Costa is of course no stranger to transfer talks with Turkish clubs as he almost joined Besiktas in 2011 before being sent out on loan to Rayo Vallecano.

“In 2011 I was on the verge of joining Besiktas but an injury prevented the transfer from going ahead,” Costa was quoted as saying in 2014.

“An agreement was in place, they actually made a really attractive offer.

“I guess God did not want me at Besiktas at that moment in my career.”

Besiktas have kept close ties with Costa who regularly visits Turkey on holiday with his former Atleti teammate Arda Turan.

The Blues would have to accept a cut-price deal from Besiktas for Costa or even a loan transfer.

Besiktas are under pressure from Financial Fair Play (FFP) to stay within budget this summer in order to avoid a European competition suspension.

The Black Eagles did win the league title for the second season running and booked a place in the Champions League group stages yet again.

The Istanbul giants reached the Europa League quarter-finals last campaign, narrowly missing out on the last four after losing to Lyon on penalties.

Costa joined the Blues three years ago on a £32 million move from Atletico Madrid.

The 28-year-old, who has two years left on his £150,000-a-week deal at Stamford Bridge holds the cards as far as deciding when and who he will join.
