The pitch invader was later revealed to be Luke Huskisson, a 28-year-old sniper in the RAF Regiment who was protesting against the lack of mental health care provided for soldiers by the Ministry of Defence according to the Liverpool Echo.

Huskisson is reported to be campaigning for the Ministry of Defence to sponsor a 24 hour mental health helpline for military personnel suffering with mental illness.

Liverpool won the first-leg 1-0 thanks to a late penalty from Mario Balotelli.

The return-leg will be played at the Atatürk Olympic stadium on Thursday 26 February.

The Atatürk stadium is where Liverpool famously won the 2005 Champions League title.
