Everton Boss Reveals Wayne Rooney Is Off Penalty Duty, Striker Who Did Not Miss Single Spot Kick For Besiktas Among 3 Replacementd

Everton manager Sam Allardyce has confirmed that Wayne Rooney is now off penalties at after his latest miss from 12-yards against Brighton.

“Wayne has been taking them all year hasn’t he,” Allardyce said after the game.

“I didn’t know if Baines would want it, I know Cenk would want it and Gylfi would want it.

“Anyone of those three who are playing can have the next one.”

Allardyce revealed three potential candidates to take over the roll, Cenk Tosun, Leighton Baines and Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Baines is the most successful penalty taker in the Toffees history – with 25 successful spot kicks from 28 attempts.

Tosun has a brilliant penalty record, he did not miss a single spot kick at Besiktas converting all 12 attempts including a crucial goal in the Champions League against Monaco for Besiktas this season.

The 26-year-old has found his goal scoring boots lately, netting twice in his last two goals, against Burnley and in the 2-0 win over Brighton.

In total he has missed just one of his 25 penalties in his career and that was for Gaziantepspor six years ago.

 

Sigurdsson also has an outstanding record, converting 22 out of 24 penalty attempts for club and country.
