Everton Linked with Fenerbahçe’s Fred in Significant Transfer Move

Premier League club Everton is reportedly preparing a substantial offer for Fenerbahçe midfielder Fred, signaling a potential return to English football for the 32-year-old. Turkish outlet Takvim suggests the Toffees are willing to commit a “large transfer fee” to secure the Brazilian’s services.

The rumored pursuit comes as Fenerbahçe appears keen on acquiring Tottenham’s Yves Bissouma, a move that could render Fred surplus to requirements despite his significant contributions to the Turkish club. Fred featured in 45 matches for the Istanbul giants during the 2024/25 season.

Under contract with Fenerbahçe until 2027, the Turkish side is expected to demand a considerable sum for the midfielder. Takvim indicates that any negotiations would likely commence with an asking price of at least €17 million. This figure would represent a healthy profit for Fenerbahçe, who signed Fred from Manchester United for approximately €10 million in the summer of 2023.

Fred spent five seasons at Old Trafford, accumulating 214 appearances and scoring 14 goals for Manchester United, often facing scrutiny during his tenure as a holding midfielder.

However, the potential transfer to Goodison Park might hinge on the contractual situation of current Everton midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye. The Senegalese international’s contract is set to expire in a matter of weeks, and he is reportedly pushing for a two-year extension, while Everton is believed to have offered a one-year deal. Should Gueye’s future be resolved with an extension, the appeal of signing another experienced midfielder of a similar age might diminish for the Merseyside club. David Moyes is reportedly an admirer of Fred.

The coming weeks are expected to shed more light on both Fred’s potential Premier League comeback and the crucial decisions Everton faces regarding its midfield roster.
