Everton & Newcastle Lose Can Uzun Race, Set to Complete €18m Move to Bundesliga Side

Eintracht Frankfurt have reportedly secured the signing of highly-rated striker Can Uzun from 1. FC Nürnberg, according to Bild.

The Shields Gazette recently reported that Newcastle United and Everton were in the race to sign Uzun, despite the 18-year-old’s talks with Frankfurt.

It now appears that they have lost the race for the rising star who has reportedly completed his medical ahead of a move valued at around €18 million.

This signing fills the void left by the departure of Randal Kolo Muani in the summer, with loan spells for Sasa Kalajdzic and Hugo Ekitike unlikely to be extended.

Uzun has been prolific this season, scoring 13 goals for Nürnberg, and his form even earned him a call-up to the Turkish national team ahead of Euro 2024. He ultimately chose to represent Turkey – despite also having the option to play for Germany.

Uzun becomes Frankfurt’s fourth summer signing, following deals for Aurèle Amenda (€9.5m from Young Boys), Krisztián Lisztes (€4.5m from Ferencváros), and Uzun’s close friend Nathaniel Brown (€3m from Nürnberg).

Despite a significant player exodus in the summer, which saw the departures of Kolo Muani, Daichi Kamada, Jesper Lindstrøm, Evan Ndicka, and Djibril Sow, Frankfurt have not only replaced key personnel but also invested in their future.

Young talents like Farès Chaïbi, William Pacho, Éric Junior Dina Ebimbe, and Hugo Larsson highlight their commitment to building a strong core.

The club has also established itself as a breeding ground for top talent, attracting young players and developing them before they move on to bigger clubs.
