Everton Prepared To Offer €12m For Cenk Tosun’s Former Teammate But Arsenal Could Derail Move

Besiktas club president Fikret Orman and transfer committee director Umut Guner travelled to London mid-week to hold talks over potential summer moves.

A source close to Besiktas revealed to Turkish-Football that the duo held talks with representatives from Arsenal and Everton over a potential move for Everton.

The Toffees are reportedly prepared to offer Besiktas’ €12 million asking price for the Turkey international.

The Black Eagles are however, in a bit of a dilemma.

Ozyakup is out of contract at the end of the season. Besiktas want to wait until his current deal has expired before signing a contract.

The Istanbul giants would have to pay 30 percent of a future transfer to Arsenal if they renew his current deal.

Besiktas would not have to pay Arsenal the 30 percent clause if they sign Ozyakup as a free agent.

The strategy is high risk as all they are relying on is Ozyakup’s word to go ahead with the plan.

The Turkey international would technically be able to sign for another club on a free transfer.

Everton signed Cenk Tosun from Besiktas over the January transfer window.

Besiktas believe they have an understanding with Everton but the Toffees are under no obligation not to try and sign Ozyakup for free.

Ozyakup and Tosun were former teammates and lifted two league titles together.

Arsenal could however, derail an Ozyakup move to Everton.

The Gunners were keen on their former academy star but Arsene Wenger will be leaving at the end of the season.

The North London based outfit could change their transfer policy as a result.

Besiktas are concerned that Arsenal may try to sign Ozyakup back on a free transfer.

The 24-year-old left London five-years ago in pursuit of first team football.
