Everton Star Unable To Bring Black Eagles Good Luck As Besiktas Lose First Champions League Clash Since Transfer

Everton star Cenk Tosun played a huge role in his former side Besiktas reaching the Champions League Last 16.

Tosun was directly involved in six of the Black Eagles 11 goals in the group stages.

The Istanbul giants topped Group G as undefeated leaders.

The 26-year-old wished his previous side all the best via social media ahead of the clash but he was unable to bring any good fortune.

The reigning Super Lig champions lost their first game in the competition played since Tosun was sold in January by a 5-0 scoreline to Bayern Munich in Germany.

Besiktas defended valiantly with 10 men in the first-half. Vagner Love could have even taken the visitors ahead after doing all the hard work in getting into a one-on-one with the keeper before blazing the ball over the bar.

It was however, Thomas Muller who broke Besiktas’s resistance just before half-time.

The goal marked the beignning of the end. The Black Eagles were unable to get back into the game. Senol Gunes simply has not built a team built to defend. But the alternative was to attack and get countered.

It was a lose-lose situation. Besiktas capitulated in the second-half as Bayern scored four more, all but securing a place in the quarter-finals.

It was a shame because at 11 v 11 the game looked poised to be a cracker. In hindsight it is easy to say but Vida would have probably been better off taking a risk in not trying to tackle Lewandowsi even if he got away and scored. The red card was the pivotal moment. The point of no return.
