Everton suffer transfer setback in race to sign former Arsenal midfielder this summer

Everton have suffered a transfer blow in their pursuit of the Turkey international playmaker Oguzhan Ozyakup.

We recently reported that Everton are keeping tabs on the 25-year-old as a potential summer signing. Ozyakup linked up well with Cenk Tosun at Besiktas prior to his Premier League move back in January.

According to a report on the Turkish outlet Fanatik, Besiktas are close to striking a new deal with Ozyakup – who has three months remaining on his current deal.

Per the source, the Black Eagles are on the verge of agreeing a new four-year contract with Ozyakup.

Newcastle United were also among the clubs interested in a move for the Turkey international.

Ozyakup is no stranger to the Premier League after rising through the ranks at Arsenal academy before making the move to Besiktas five years ago. The former AZ Alkmaar midfielder has been directly involved in 75 goals for the Black Eagles since leaving Arsenal.
