Fabri to Fulham: Club president reveals why he sold star player to London based side

Besiktas president Fikret Orman has revealed why he decided to sell Fabri to Fulham this summer.

The Spanish goalkeeper made the move to Fulham for £5 million earlier this month.

The transfer has raised the eyebrows of Besiktas fans who were hoping the club would be strengthening the squad over the summer, not selling its star assets.

However, Fikret Orman told CNN Turk that Besiktas had no choice but to sell Fabri to Fulham.

Orman explained that Fabri had under a year left on his contract and that the 30-year-old keeper was not interested in extending his stay.

The Black Eagles decided to cash in on Fabri rather than risk losing him for free next summer.

Fabri joined Besiktas on a free transfer back in 2016 when his contract with Deportivo expired.

Besiktas have subsequently been linked with a move for Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina. The Colombia international is expected to leave the club following the arrival of Kevin Trapp from Bayer Leverkusen.
