Altay Bayindir made his debut for Manchester United in the 4-2 victory over Newport County in the FA Cup.

The Turkish shot-stopper, signed from Fenerbahce in the summer, became the club’s first-ever player from Turkey as he donned the iconic red jersey for a competitive match.

Filling in for the Africa Cup-bound Andre Onana, Bayindir showcased his talent with several key saves, including a breathtaking full-stretch denial of James Waite in the dying moments.

His assured presence between the posts helped United secure a 4-2 victory and a place in the fifth round.

Speaking to MUTV after the game, Bayindir couldn’t hide his emotions, “I was playing my first game, I’m feeling very good because it’s a big club in the world and we have a big fan[base], everyone coming [to] every game, everyone supporting us.

“I’m feeling very good. Tomorrow, I will continue in the morning. Today is finished and we won today, we are very happy, but we have the next game and we need to be focused for every game, because every game is important for us, everyone wants to win because they know they are playing with Manchester United – it’s a big club in the world.”

Bayindir said it was a ‘special feeling’ to play his first game for United and that his next goal is to play at Old Trafford.

“We are so happy tonight and I need to say I’m feeling special today because I was playing [as] the first Turkish player [for Man Utd] and I’m feeling very proud of myself. I will continue tomorrow,” he added.

“Of course, I always want to play more games, but we have a good relationship with all the goalkeepers,”

“If the manager will give [us a] chance, we will play and we will give everything. We know our responsibility because we are playing in a big club, we need to give [our all] every day, every game, we need everything.

“Of course, I want to play with this great team, this great atmosphere, and in Old Trafford. I want to play in there with the fans.”

While manager Erik ten Hag confirmed Onana’s will be back in contention for their next Premier League clash against Wolves, Bayindir remains hungry for more opportunities.

Bayindir’s impressive debut has not only added depth to United’s goalkeeping options but also opened a new chapter in the club’s history.

The Turkish guardian has not only secured his place in the record books but also gives Ten Hag options in goal knowing he can call on his second in command.
