Galatasaray midfielder Felipe Melo underwent a hernia operation today that is expected to rule him out until the end of the season.
Doctor Hakan Oruçkaptan carried out Melo’s operation at the Liv Hospital.
“Melo will begin physiotherapy after 4-6 weeks, the operation went well, I am not a sports doctor but it does not look like Melo will not be able to start playing over the next few weeks,” Oruçkatptan told Galatasaray Tv.
Galatasaray have traditionally struggled in the past when the Brazilian international has been suspended or injured.
Melo missed four games in the 2013-2014 season due to suspensions. Galatasaray failed to win any of the games the Brazilian midfielder missed.
The 30-year-old joined Galatasaray on a permanent deal from Juventus worth £3 million last summer after playing the previous two seasons on loan at the Lions.
The hard working midfielder has scored one goal in 21 appearances for Galatasaray in all competitors this season.
