Fenerbahce – Besiktas: Super Lig Preview

The Istanbul derby will see first placed Beşiktaş take on second placed Fenerbahçe. A victory for the away side would see them move four points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand.

Fenerbahçe will move two point clear of Beşiktaş with a win but the Eagles would still move ahead of the Yellow Canaries if they win their game in hand against Trabzonspor which was postponed due to heavy snowfall.

Besiktas will be without Rhodolfo in defence and Gokhan Tore is a doubt for the Istanbul derby.

Jose Sosa is almost certain to start after being directly been involved in 10 of the Black Eagles last 19 goals and with Tore a doubt Olcay Sahan could get the nod.

Sahan has scored twice in his last seven games against Fenerbahce but has not been in the best of form recently and there are reports coming in that Kerim Frei may get a rare start.

Fenerbahce meanwhile are without the injured Abdoulaye Ba and on-loan Liverpool winger Lazar Markovic while Gokhan Gonul remains a doubt.

Fenerbahce have won 23 and lost 16 of the 59 games against Besiktas at home.

Besiktas are no stranger to playing away from home since they have technically played ever single game on the road for the past two-and-a-half seasons.

The Inonu stadium is currently being rebuilt forcing the Eagles into a nomadic existence.

The Eagles are used to playing away and have scored the most goals on the road this season 23. They could however, face trouble penetrating Fenerbahce’s well drilled and organised defensive setup. The Yellow Canaries have conceded just eight times at home.

Fenerbahce have a fantastic home record and are unbeaten at the Sukru Saracoglu this season. The Canaries have also won seven out of their last 11 home derbies against Besiktas.

The Eagles may be playing more aesthetically pleasing football but Fenerbahce are the more organised side less prone to defensive errors. The Canaries will however, have to take risks considering this is a must win game. Fenerbahce are more than capable of scoring but then again so are Besiktas.
