The latest development follows a report by David Ornstein for The Athletic that United do not plan on extending Martial’s contract and will not block his exit from the club.
United had the option to extend his contract by an additional season but that they have no plans to keep him on.
“Manchester United do not intend to activate the option to extend Anthony Martial’s contract,” Ornstein wrote on X.
“Current deal expires in 2024 (+ 1yr). Barring a change of plan, the 28 year-old will exit Man Utd as free agent next summer unless suitable offers arrive in January.”
Martial is a versatile player who can play as a striker, right winger, and left winger. He is seen as a potential solution to Fenerbahçe’s attacking problems.
The Turkish club is reportedly willing to offer Martial a contract until the summer of 2024, with the option of a further year.
Martial would be a big signing for Fenerbahçe, and he could help the club to challenge for the Turkish league title in the coming seasons.
However, it remains to be seen whether Fenerbahçe will be able to agree on a deal with Manchester United for Martial.
