Fenerbahçe manager İsmail Kartal praised his side for beating Beşiktaş 2-0 in the Istanbul derby.

“We were well organised and well disciplined,” Kartal said.

“We put on a good performance against a side playing some of the best football in the league.

“We made a few mistakes but we got the three points at the end of the day.”

Kartal also praised Beşiktaş for their performance after going down to 10 men.

“I have to congratulate my opposition, Beşiktaş played very well despite being down to 10 men for much of the match,” Kartal said.

“We beat a very strong side and showed our strength and that we are very much in the title race this season.

“We could have scored more goals had we converted more chances but I have to praise my players for the spirit they showed.

“They proved themselves under the high pressure environment of an Istanbul derby.”

Kartal also revealed that he was pleased and impressed with his strikers Moussa Sow and Emmanuel Emenike.

“I was very pleased with my strikers Moussa Sow and Emmanuel Emenike scoring, both have been quite harshly criticised over recent weeks but they proved their quality today,” Kartal said.

“Finally I want to pledge this win to our president Aziz Yıldırım, it was his birthday and we wish him all the best.”

İsmail Kartal was appointed as manager of Fenerbahçe this summer.
