Besiktas took on rivals Galatasaray in the Istanbul derby at the Turk Telekom Arena in the Super Lig on Sunday.

The Turkish league went ahead this weekend despite most European leagues suspended games after the coronavirus outbreak.

The derby clash was, however, played without fans.

USA international Tyler Boyd started for the Black Eagles in the goalless draw against the Lions.

Boyd took to Instagram to issue his post-match reaction.

The 25-year-old made it clear how hard the team fought but also highlighted how odd it was to play without fans.

He underlined that “football without fans is not football.”

Boyd said: “We fought hard and tried to stay focused on winning the game despite the circumstances, but football without fans is not football. Football is important but let’s also focus on helping each other and staying safe as we go through this difficult time.”

Boyd followed up his post with the following Instagram story.

The winger put on an impressive display for the Black Eagles against Galatasaray.

Boyd made the highest number of tackles (6), most interceptions (3) and two tackles.

And was just as impressive going forwards making the highest number of dribbles for his side (3) helping his side pose an attacking threat.
