Freiburg Boss Reveals Whether €30m Star Will Join Arsenal This Summer

Freiburg defender Caglar Soyuncu has been closely linked with a move to Arsenal over the summer transfer window.

Soyuncu’s agent Mustafa Dogru confirmed Arsenal head of recruitment has expressed a keen interest in the young defender.

Freiburg manager Christian Streich has however, made it clear they hope to keep Soyuncu on their books this summer.

Streich revealed that Arsenal have not made an offer and that they have no plans for him to leave.

“We plan to keep him. We will not sit at the negotiation table this summer,” Streich told BILD.

Sporting director Klemens Hartenbach took a more diplomatic tone and did not completely rule out Soyuncu leaving: “Arsenal have made made us an offer, we assume Soyuncu will play for us next season.”

Freiburg placed a €30m valuation of Soyuncu which has kept interested parties at bay for the time being.

Additionally, Soyuncu does have another four-years remaining on his contract. Freiburg are under no pressure to sell their star man this summer.

Dogru did state that they requested Soyuncu leave over the summer and that several Premier League sides have made him offers but it appears the Bundesliga outfit do not want to play ball.

“Reports claiming Caglar or I saying a deal has been struck with Arsenal are false,” Dogru said.

“Arsenal have not held official talks with us, Sven Mislintat is keen on him but we are currently not in direct negotiations with the club,” Dogru recently told Turkish-Football.

“We have made it clear to Freiburg that Caglar wants to leave over the summer.

“Clubs from England, Spain and Italy have expressed an interest but they have to reach an agreement with Freiburg first.”

Soyuncu is currently out sidelined with a muscle injury for the next few weeks.
