Galatasaray’s transfer window has been a mix of quick action and curious silence. While the club made a splash with the early signing of Leroy Sané, movement on other key targets has since stalled, leading to speculation. One of the most talked-about names is veteran midfielder İlkay Gündoğan, and a new report suggests his transfer is currently in a state of limbo.
Journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu recently made a striking claim, stating that the 34-year-old Gündoğan has been patiently waiting for a call from Galatasaray for weeks. Sabuncuoğlu went on to say that the player’s interest is so strong, he would be in Istanbul within 48 hours if the club made an official offer.

Sabuncuoglu said as reported by Fanatik: “İlkay Gündoğan has been waiting for Galatasaray for weeks. However, there is no turning back from Galatasaray. If Galatasaray calls İlkay today, it will come to Istanbul within 48 hours.”
Reports from the press indicate that Galatasaray is holding off on other transfer business until a resolution is found for their pursuit of Victor Osimhen. It’s suggested that once the situation with the star striker is finalized, the club will then move to secure Gündoğan and a goalkeeper.
The experienced midfielder is a top target for Galatasaray, who are reportedly looking to sign him on a free transfer. Sources claim Gündoğan is keen on the move, not only for the opportunity to play for the club but also for the chance to live in Istanbul.
Guardiola’s Player Clear-Out Puts Gündoğan’s Future in Question
Gündoğan’s potential availability stems from recent comments by Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, who has expressed a desire to streamline his squad. Guardiola reportedly wants to trim the roster to avoid having key players sitting in the stands, a sentiment that has fueled rumors about multiple City stars being available for transfer.
In a move that caught many by surprise, City has reportedly approved the departures of several high-profile players, including Jack Grealish, Kalvin Phillips, John Stones, and Matheus Nunes, among others. The clear-out seems to be paving the way for a new phase at the club, and with Kevin De Bruyne’s recent departure also confirmed, Gündoğan’s exit is now considered a strong possibility.
